Green with envy? Entirely understandable.

This spectacular platinum cluster ring is built around an extraordinary 11.96 carat emerald-cut chrome green tourmaline  a wonderfully substantial gemstone with the long, elegant geometry of the emerald cut and the intensely saturated bright green for which chrome tourmaline is prized.

And at nearly twelve carats, this is a serious stone.

GIA notes that chrome tourmalines are known for richer saturation than most green tourmalines and that stones of  approximately over five carats are rarely encountered. That makes an 11.96 carat example particularly noteworthy for its scale.

The tourmaline is held in a classic four-claw platinum mounting with a double under gallery, allowing the center stone to remain the undeniable star while giving it strong architectural support.

Surrounding the green center is a lively diamond cluster composed of four marquise-cut and fourteen round brilliant-cut natural diamonds, all individually prong set. Together, they contribute approximately 0.82 carat of bright G/H color, VS-range diamonds.

The marquise diamonds are especially clever here. Their pointed silhouettes visually extend the composition while the rounds fill the surrounding cluster with sparkle, creating a softer, more organic frame around the strong rectangular geometry of the center stone.

Beneath it all is a beautifully constructed cage-back undergallery — the sort of detail that gives a substantial gemstone ring both strength and dimension.

The platinum mounting then narrows into pinched, concave shoulders before flowing into the matching shank, keeping the profile graceful despite the impressive scale of the center stone.

It is bold without being cumbersome.

Architectural without being severe.

And very, very green.

WHAT MAKES CHROME TOURMALINE SPECIAL?

Not every green tourmaline gets to call itself chrome tourmaline.

Chrome tourmaline refers to intensely green tourmaline whose color is associated with chromium and/or vanadium. Interestingly, despite the name, GIA notes that many examples owe much of their intense green color to vanadium — an element also involved in the color of many emeralds.

That helps explain the visual appeal.
