1920- 1939
A very exciting period for many reasons. The term “Art Deco” came after the Paris exhibition in 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes (International Exposition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Art). The exhibition feature French art and business interests. Displaying sleek geometric motifs inspired by such things as the glamorous movie industry, travel and technology. The style encompassed the influences of Neoclassical, Constructivism, Cubism, Modernism, Bauhaus, Art Nouveau, and Futurism at that time. During this period Paris and other major cities in the world were abundant with highly talented European Artisans, that had fled from such places as the Russia and its revolutions. The artisans created high detail, high quality jewelry using exciting materials such as platinum and the precious gemstone varieties available at the. The sources of these gemstones have long since been mined out and craftsmanship capable of detail like that is rare and cost prohibitive.
