Trilliant cut Diamond
The “Trilliant” cut diamond is a triangular shaped diamond with many facets – a triangular brilliant if you like with bowed or straight sides and sometimes with cut points. It was originally developed by the Asscher brothers in Amsterdam also know for cutting he Cullinan and original square emerald cut – the Asscer cut. Later the cut was copyrighted in the 1960’s by a New York diamond company and has now expired. Laboratories such as the GIA commonly refer to them as Triangular Brilliant or Triangular Modified Brilliant. It can be quite a challenge to set as a solitaire and is often used as a matching pair of side stones for a larger diamond of other gemstone.
